The visual appeal of the DCS-001 Saga motorcycle is undeniable; images of the bike bypass rational thought and pass directly to the primitive parts of the brain, which inform the viewer that he must possess this machine. This is the reflexive response that engineer Larry Nagel and designer Paul Yang, the duo behind Dreamcraft Studios in Ontario, Calif., were seeking when they created the Saga bike (in just seven months).

The Saga’s allure derives from its nakedness; no bodywork or sheet metal cloaks the Saga’s mechanics, leaving its Harley-Davidson twin-cam 88 engine and the rest of its inner workings exposed. To accomplish this feat, Nagel and Yang had to build a frame that served as the 695-pound bike’s structural backbone while also giving it its distinctive, curvaceous shape. The Saga’s upper frame is fashioned from 4130 chrome moly, which is stronger and lighter than most other grades of steel, and the lower frame is made from aluminum. The seat, positioned only 24 inches above the ground, is suspended on nitrogen shocks that adjust to the rider’s weight.

Footwork is not necessary on this bike, because Nagel and Yang built all of the controls—for the brakes and the hydraulic clutch and for shifting gears—into the handlebars. The Saga debuted at the Concours on Rodeo show in Beverly Hills in June, but Dreamcraft has not offered it for sale until now.
